If there was ever a trivia question to know the answer to, this is it: How many races did Dale Earnhardt win? As a collector of NASCAR Diecast replica cars and huge Dale Earnhardt fan I wanted to start my blog with a tribute to one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history. So I ask again, how many races did Dale Earnhardt win?

Short answer: 76 wins out of 677 races run.

Long answer: Dale Earnhardt was arguably the best NASCAR driver in the modern era (1972-present). He was known as “The Intimidator” because of his aggressive driving style. The Intimidator was revered as much for his John Wayne-like personality as he was for the show he gave on the track. He was honored in 2001 with the award for NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver. In 1979 he won his first race at the Southeastern 500. That same year he won the NASCAR Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year award. His last win was the 2000 Winston 500 at Talladega. His last race was the following year at the 2001 Daytona 500 where he had a fatal crash on the fourth turn of the last lap. He was later inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2002 and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2006.

How many races did Dale Earnhardt win? 76.

Is that the most of any NASCAR driver? No. But at the time he was racing he led all drivers in the modern era.  Now Jeff Gordon holds that crown and he is still adding to his totals today with over 80 modern era wins. Had Earnhardt not suffered a life ending injury, it is my belief that he would’ve maintained his title as the most decorated NASCAR driver of the modern era for much longer.

So there you have it. You are now acquainted with Dale Earnhardt. So next time you’re watching Jeopardy and they ask, “How many races did Dale Earnhardt win?” You can correctly reply, 76.
